Joint Stewardess Boards
Three separate Stewardess Boards were started some time during the 1930s under the direction of Reverend J. DeWitt Wilson. Their purpose was to provide assistance as required with Holy Communion and Holy Baptism. Under the administration of Reverend Goodwin Douglas, the boards were placed under one umbrella and called the Joint Stewardess Boards. Later, under the administration of Reverend Edgar James, two additional boards were added. These approximately thirty-five committed women of the church, in discharging their responsibilities for the provisions for Holy Communion and Holy Baptism, clean the linen used for dressing Communion table, polish the utensils , and dress the alter and pulpit with suitable, clean coverings for the various seasons of the Christian year, for funerals and for memorials.

Junior and Young People's Usher Board
The Intermediate Usher Board of Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church was organized on June 2, 1963 under the leadership of the late Reverend Samuel Everette Guiles, Mrs. Gracie Farmer and the late Mrs. Carrie E. Quarles. In 1968 the name was changed to the Junior and Young People’s Usher Board. During this period, several successful projects were undertaken by the Board -- the replacement of an altar chair, installation of transparent glass in the church doors, church door stoppers, installation of envelope holders on pews, and the purchase of offering plates. In 1970, the Board joined the Junior and Young People’s Department of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association of Washington, D. C. and Vicinity, Inc. The Junior and Young People's Usher Board has been fortunate to have had local and national officers in the ICUA. Recently, several members attended the national conventions of the ICUA in Washington, D. C. and in 2002, Kansas City, Missouri. The Board aspires to continue working and serving the Lord as the "doorkeepers" of Turner.
