          Minister Barbara McKenzie is a Local Itinerate Elder of the Capitol District and Washington Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME). Minister McKenzie is a member of Turner Memorial AME Church in Hyattsville, MD and serves on the ministerial staff and as Director of Christian Education. In November 2006 she fulfilled the final requirements toward ordination.

         Minister McKenzie hails from Pittsburgh, Pa. She relocated to this area over thirty years ago to pursue graduate work at Howard University. Barbara loves the diversity and cultural richness of the Washington area but continues to support the Steelers.

         Barbara McKenzie loves learning and has earned a B.S. degree in English Education from Cheyney University in Cheyney, Pa., a M.Ed. in Education Administration from Howard University, Graduate Certificates in Counseling and Project Management from American University and George Washington University and expects to graduate from Wesley Theological Seminary on May 8, 2006 with a M.A., Master of Arts in Theology.

         Minister McKenzie is a certified as a Chaplain at the Washington Hospital Center, where she is participating in an extended Unit of CPE. She completed an initial unit during the summer of 2005.

         Minister McKenzie is the proud parent of two adult children, Rashaan and Nya and the grandmother of Mia a very active two-year old toddler.

         Barbara McKenzie recently celebrated her 56th birthday in March 2006. March is also the anniversary of five years as a breast cancer survivor. This journey has been a challenge and a blessing. God is an awesome God!
